Common reasons to request help
- Ceiling stains after rain
- Dripping near vents or chimneys
- Wet attic decking or insulation
- Leaks in valleys and roof transitions
- Recurring leaks after prior repairs
Common roof-leak sources
Frequent sources include damaged shingles, lifted edges, deteriorated flashing, failed pipe boots, roof vents, valleys, skylight transitions and fastener penetrations. Interior moisture may also come from plumbing or condensation, which is why source verification matters.
How a roof leak is evaluated
The provider may review interior staining, attic conditions, roof penetrations and the exterior surface. The timing of the leak, wind direction and recent work on the roof can help narrow the cause.
When a leak points to replacement
One leak does not automatically require a new roof. Replacement becomes more likely when there are multiple active areas, brittle or heavily worn materials, damaged decking, repeated repairs or broad storm damage.
